4 out of 5 stars Despite the claims, does NOT work for 1080p or 3D!   September 2, 2010
Kevin D. Stanford
As long as you don't need to support 1080p or 3D, this unit works great. It is easy to set up and relatively inexpensive. Unfortunately, the motion picture industry has stuck their noses into an electronics industry standard and produced a quagmire of incompatibility and forced replacement of expensive equipment. Pair that with "globalization" and moving our manufacturing capabilities overseas and you end up with equipment made in China that may or may not do what the manufacturer claims it will do, if you can even find any information at all describing what it will do!

I have a fairly complex setup with all my A/V components in a central location with several HD sources being distributed to 4 different rooms. The HDMI to Cat5 converters that I bought from Amazon HDMI Extender via CAT5e / CAT6 / CAT7 Over 100Meter / 330ft Best Compatibility work great - I'm using those for the long runs. The 1:2 splitter I bought from Amazon works great. The weak link in the entire system is this 4x2 matrix!

Hopefully, the home electronics industry will learn from this HDMI / HDCP fiasco to let engineers set the standards and not compromise the integrity of their designs due to pressure from people who have no technical knowledge whatsoever.

5 out of 5 stars Great matrix switch   May 11, 2010
J. Lee (TX)
I bought this switch to use with another 4x2 HDMI matrix switch so that I could hook up all my electronics (BRay, DVD-VCR, SAT-DVR, PS2) to my older 40" Hi-Def LCD TV w/ one HDMI input, either directly or through my Onkyo Home Theater receiver/AMP. I wanted the choice of either playing or watching Hi-def directly through the TV (regularly) or through the Onkyo Theater Amp (Movie nights). All input went through the 4x2 Matrix Switch first. The matrix switch will allow to choose from the four input sources (BRay,PS2, etc) and lets you choose the output (Receiver/amp or TV - in this case to the 3x1 switch). The 3x1 switch takes three inputs (output from the receiver/amp, output directly from the 4x2 matrix switch, leaving one input switch vacant) and one output; that's to the TV.

It works well and as advertised. For the price, this was a great buy.

4 out of 5 stars Sluggish response   April 29, 2010
Paul A. Harris (Chi-Town)
This unit works well, sort of. Yes with it connected to various inputs, with two individually seleactable outputs, it is versatile. It is sluggish though. Whenever an input is newly selected or an output device is turned on or off, everything goes blank on both outputs for about a couple seconds, then works. This was frustrating during installation for testing purposes. Knowing about it in advance would have been nice. I have another 4x1 selector with optical audio that works better.

5 out of 5 stars Great bang for the Buck   April 14, 2010

Good shipping and arrived packaged well but differed from the online product picture. I wanted a matrix switch to drive my Plasma and a 24" LCD simultaneously or display 2 separate inputs so I can switch between any of 4 different components like PS3, XBox360, Tivo Premiere and a PC. Picture is perfect as most all will be, since the signals are digital you basically do or don't get the full video and audio that is sent from any HDMI 1.3a or below output device. And my Plasma is running a 50 foot cheap HDMI cable (a more expensive cable would make no difference).

This is all with out upgrading my "Theatre Receiver" that only had component inputs. So now we can watch TV during dinner without running the whole Theatre system or the wife can watch her soaps while I play some games, well you get the picture. Basically a matrix switch gives you a chance to have more flexibility and options to fit your own needs.

The switching delay as others have commented does take a moment but is respectable. I do use the auto-active function when turning on the switch and then it will automatically go to the active sequential input, this may only be nice for some or many may just leave it on all the time and it wouldn't matter. The remote has to be pointed rather accurately or it is not very effective, however I plan to upgrade to a more advanced multi remote like the Harmony's and hopefully resolve this like others have. I like the rather small size and solid construction and dabbed the LEDs with a sharpy so they are not so bright.

I would prefer a longer cord and standard block end. And the one real gripe I have is when switching one of the outputs it also interrupts the other output as well which I found rather annoying but livable. The rating is high for the features, function and quality at what I found as a very reasonable and fair price. In the past and during my current research the options are slim or very expensive, sometimes 4X the cost of this. Good Luck...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent product   March 21, 2010

Switch arrived on time and fine condition. Set-up very simple and results have been excellent. Main use is for watching movies downloaded or streamed from pc to hi-def tv's. Older tv has only 1 HDMI port. It's been a couple of months and i'm very pleased.
