Very poor disks July 30, 2010 Dennis Mabrey (Whitehouse Station, NJ USA) I've have had great success burning other brands of dual layer DVD's. However the Memorex's tend to fail about 1 out of 5 times. I do not recommend these disks I am sorry to say. Had much success with Verbatim and HP's disks.
The problem wasn't them, but me! July 27, 2010 funk_D I got my DVDs and excitedly burned a bunch of 360 backups at 2.4x. Most worked perfectly, but eventually I started getting coasters. I thought it was the DVD's, but after asking the imgburn forum, it turns out it was just my external DVD writer having a bad connection. I bought a Esata to SATA cable and it works fine now! That said, I have had one DVD to stop being read by the 360. Just one. Out of 50. And it looks like it might just be scratched. For the money, you can't beat these. Even if they do all end up as coasters, just try finding a better price on a 50 pack of coasters. Much cheaper than verbatim and in my experience only one has failed. Definitely a "buy".
Just don't do it. July 27, 2010 systems student (California) You just can't buy these anymore. There has been a lot of discussion about where these Memorex DL DVD's are manufactured, but this batch was made in Taiwan and half of them don't work. As for the other half, my player takes about 2 or three minutes to decide they're OK - not a good sign. By the way, everything else works fine so it's not my drive.
40% failure rate (coasters, gotta love it). July 27, 2010 Patricia Lobelle-Rich I've got them from Office Depot (me) and Sam's (wife). Both 50 stacks had huge failure rates. Most of the failures just won't run at all, but the most recent I watched a movie with visitors that went to the 75% mark and died. Really irritating. Buy Memorex, be a sucker.
Works as advertised...simply the best value on the market. July 25, 2010 Movie Lover (Dallas, TX) I don't know why there are so many bad reviews for these dual layer discs. Many have said that these discs will not burn at 8x so I decided to test it out myself. The result? I have already burned over a dozen movies at 8x without any problems. And I have also watched through most of the burned material to make sure they were not freezing, skipping, etc. I am using an old Sony DL re-writable with Windows XP. I think the people that had problems in the past are unfortunately using hardware that maybe not compatible with Memorex or burning at the maximum speed. If you are burning coasters, try burning at 4x or 2.4x. And remember, in the computer world, not all hardware are compatible.
