Good for saving data but movie backups are not recognized by PS3 August 2, 2010 David E. Grant 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
8/13/2010 UPDATE
I admit when I'm wrong and... I'm wrong. These discs work perfectly fine. The problem lies within the Lite-On iHBS112 blu-ray burner for sure.
I have tested a few of these now with movie back ups and I'll be buying more. With my new LG blu-ray burner I can actually get 8x speed even though they are rated at 4x.
I've changed my rating to 4 stars now!!
ORIGINAL POST
I bought these BD-R back in July to go along with my new Blu-Ray burner (Lite-On iHBS112). I'm interested in backing up my Blu-Ray collection in case anything happens to my originals so I thought these discs would be good for the price. I was wrong.
These discs are not recognized by the PS3.
I ripped the movie I wanted to backup and burned the movie at maximum speed (for these discs it is 4x) using the latest version of Nero. I checked that the disc played fine on my PC and then tried it on the PS3 (my only Blu-Ray player). The disc is not recognized when inserted (the disc light comes on but no activity nothings appears on the XMB). I thought it might have been a bad disc so I tried it again. The same thing happened. I then tried different burning software (ImgBurn) and, once again, the same thing happened.
So it was either the discs or the burner that was the problem. I purchased a Sony BD-RE 2x disc and burned the same movie. It was recognized by the PS3 and played no problem.
The discs are the issue. I have contacted RiDATA tech support to see if there is a remedy to this but so far I have had no reply.
I don't know if these work on other standalone Blu-Ray players.
Pros:
Price
Save 25GB of data on to one disc
Cons:
Backup movies is not recognized on PS3
Price & Quality July 6, 2010 LARRY JACKSON (WILMINGTON ' DE.) Here's my two sense .. The disc's burned w/ no coasters .. The price is the lowest .. You get quality & great price point ( $1.80 per disc )..
great April 26, 2010 bronxbomber (Durham, NC) So far I've burned 12 of them and not a single coaster. These are working out better than the more expensive name brand ones I used last time.
Good quality BD-Rs. April 22, 2010 K Trout I've had very good burn success with these. From my limited Blu-ray burning so far I had fewer coasters with these than Verbatim. Memorex has actually been the best for me so far.
