Not worth the extra money!! August 26, 2010 sara This is the first amazon review I have written!! I bought this antenna at best buy (on their suggestion) because I am having trouble picking up NBC in Springfield IL. It is broadcast in Decatur, which is about 40 miles away. This antenna did not get me any more channels than my other antenna (the cheapest one BB sold). It actually made some channels come in worse! Also, the cord is really short so moving it closer to the window wasn't an option. I ended up returning it. Don't buy it if you are trying to pick up channels that aren't very close. Stick with the traditional antenna instead.

It got here very fast. I would buy from this person again if he has something I need.

DON'T EXPECT A LOT FROM THIS AMPLIFIED ANTENNA January 31, 2010 CAPT RON (OUTER BANKS NC) THIS ANTENNA DID ABSOLUTLY NOTHING FOR MY MOTHER'S TV.... I TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET A BETTER SIGNAL/PICTURE FROM THE NEW ANTENNA WITH NO LUCK.. HAVING SAID THAT, THAT DOESN'T MEAN THIS ANTENNA WON'T WORK FOR YOU BUT BE ASSURED IT WILL NOT WORK IN ALL SITUATIONS..IT IS ALSO INTERESTING THAT THIS REVIEW DOES NOT LET YOU RATE (WITH A STAR RATING) THE "PICTURE QUALITY" AS AN "ATTRIBUTE" THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT REASONS FOR BUYING AN AMPLIFIED ANTENNA.........
More than worth the cost January 15, 2010 David M. Nataf Let me say all that needs to be said about these kinds of products... the antenna works. I get all the channels the government site says I'm supposed to get, though The CW is a bit tricky and requires careful placement. If there was an antenna identical to this one but two or three or four times more powerful I would totally buy it. I also get some other channels I didn't know about.
Placement within the room matters. Some spots in my living room get 2 channels, others get 20 channels.
Great gain, okay design November 25, 2009 Cris M. Jones (Western Montana) I bought the RCA ANT1251 for one reason: it offers higher gain (55db) than any other low-priced amplified antenna I could find.
My previous antenna is an old amplified Magnavox that delivers up to 22db gain, and in my part of rural Northwest Montana, that was good for exactly one digital VHF station from 12 miles away. This antenna, on the other hand, is capable of bringing in two additional digital channels, both of which seem to be at least 40 miles distant. So on that note alone, I did get my money's worth.
The design does leave some things to be desired. As another reviewer noted, the dipoles (used for VHF reception, i.e. channels 2-13) are pretty stiff, so you need to use both hands and a bit of caution to move them around. The bigger problem is the UHF loop (channels 14-69). Contrary to the product description, the loop does NOT pivot. You have to rotate the entire unit to orient it with your station's transmitter, and when the dipoles are extended, this can result in a bit of a tangle with surrounding walls, curtains, and whatnot.
But on the other hand, it is compact (slightly smaller than my previous model) and I appreciate that there are separate gain controls for VHF and UHF.
So, this is a fine indoor amplified antenna, especially for the price. It's not going to get you the kind of reception that an outdoor mount can deliver, but it's also not going to cost you nearly as much or require installation.
