5 out of 5 stars Canopus ADVC110 - It works great on a Mac Pro and with Snow Leopard   July 1, 2010
Robert D. Mack
After reading reviews on AD converter products (which ones work and which ones do not work and why), I decided to make the investment and go for the Canopus ADVC 110. The money was worth it; this product will save you a lot of time and put a smile on your face. It is simple to set up and its use is intuitive; within a few minutes I was importing video successfully from my old VHS tapes into iMovie; everything was in sync without any dropped frames. It works like a charm as does iMovie. For me, Canopus is the way to go for a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.

Even if its a bit pricey it's well worth the investment if you intend to do a significant amount of video conversion. Easy to use but the directions could have been a bit more clear.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use, good video quality   April 11, 2010

I bought the ADVC110 to convert tons of VHS home movies to DVD or MPEG-4 archives, and this device does (well, starts) the job admirably. After reading reviews of various capture devices, I settled on the ADVC110 because I liked the idea of dedicated capture hardware that also kept the audio in sync, and I didn't trust my PC to have the processing power to do it all in software.

I'm very satisfied so far -- I've had no problems with dropped frames or shifted audio. It creates DV-AVI Type 2 files at 720x480, which my video editor handles nicely.

The only problem I had (and this is no fault of the ADVC110, but I wanted to mention it in case it helps anyone else) was that my on-board Firewire ports just didn't work. They evidently powered the ADVC100 (the lights came on), but Windows wouldn't detect it. So I eventually ended up getting a $10 1394 PCI card, and now everything works perfectly.

My son plans on converting old pictures, slides, videos, etc. He researched products available and indicated this was the one he wanted (for his birthday). Thanks for the speedy delivery.

I have a 14 year old analog 8mm camcorder and have tried for years to figure out how to convert them easily to digital format so I may edit them and make DVD movies. I've tried other products with no success, but the Canopus analog to digital converter worked the first time and it was so easy!!! I use mine with Adobe Premiere Elements 8 as my capturing and editing software. Great combo.
