Poor design and low quality June 6, 2010 Kelly M. Wloczewski (SF CA) I was very disappointed with this item. The first problem is that the insertion holes are simply too small to accommodate larger diameter higher quality cables. (Yes, like the one's that Monster sells.) Conversely, if you decide to use pin connectors on your cables (also from Monster), then you'll find that the spring loaded receptacles are so weak and flimsy that your cables will constantly pop out. I suffered using one of these for about 6 months until one of the connectors finally just broke, rendering the entire device useless. Honestly I find it baffling that Monster would design and sell a unit like this that is essentially incompatible with their core products. Obviously their design choices were made in the interest of cost rather than quality and function.
Good quality speaker switch for the money February 5, 2010 TweakerMI (Lansing, MI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Monster Cable products have always had a reputable name and I was rather surprised to find a multi-speaker selector switch in this price class with the Monster brand name affixed to it. This particular switch has the typical multi-pair on/off switches and the load switch, to (help) prevent damage to a smaller amplifier when presented with a low-impedance load resulting from multiple pairs of speakers. The switches have a nice detent feel and the case is all metal except for the front facia. Audiophiles may not care for the fact that this uses spring-loaded push terminals for cable interfacing; however, it is what it is - either twist bare ends of wires together and guide them into the terminal openings or buy post-style terminations. I used this switch to turn on/off zoned speaker pairs and went with an infrared remote repeater so the receiver remote control could be used in the alternate room. No complaints about functionality or sound quality. I'm giving this a four star out of five because it would be nice to include five-way binding posts on a switch like this; however, adding this type of terminations would undoubtedly drive up the price...maybe we should quit while we're ahead!
Quit working after a few months December 20, 2009 K. Koonce Product work well for a couple of months, then the right channel went dead. Awaiting word from Monster about warranty repair or replacement.
Excellent quality & economical way to pump sound through my apartment November 11, 2009 Wilhelmina Gaudy (Beaverton, OR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had been saving up to buy two new amp/receivers, one for my livingroom and one for my art studio as well as and putting my current one in my bedroom. All this in addition to buying upgraded speakers for my studio and sticking my old one in my bedroom. This was adding up to a lot of money to have great sound in each room With this nifty little speaker selector I'm able to use the current amp/rec I now own (still planning to upgrade) and start running speaker wire through my apartment to each room. I've upgraded the type of speaker wire I'm using and added Monster Banana plugs to one set and the sound is fantastic. I have Sony 3 way floor speakers in my livingroom and some somewhat decent used speakers in my studio.
It is great knowing I only had to spend under 70 bucks to wire up two rooms so far when I was expecting to shell out well over 200 just to get two rooms set up. I have a 5 disc CD player so I just load it up with music and head back to my studio for a creative, musical art experience. While this is a quality product, your sound depends on your amp and or receiver, type of speaker wire used, how your wire or cable is attached to your speakers, and what kind of speaker you have.
I've noticed that by simply changing the speaker wire to a better quality, my stereo system has a noticably improved sound. Changing from wrapping wire around the speaker connecters to Monster banana plugs improved the sound even more. I look forward to a new, upgraded amp/receiver.
If you aren't happy with the sound you get after hooking up your speakers to the speaker selector you may want to upgrade other aspects of your sound system. I'm delighted with each little change I make. The speaker selector allows you to upgrade your home sound system in a more economical way to get the most boom for your buck.
Pretty Cheesy for Monster August 12, 2009 SamIam (Arlington, WA United States) Normally I've been really happy with Monster products. They're usually more expensive than the competitors but better quality too. This speaker selector is an exception. There's not really much to it but the wire connections on the back really suck - especially if you're using 12ga or 14GA wire. I can't get the connections to stay in place if I move the unit at all - really frustrating. I don't know why they didn't design it to use with their own crimp terminals like I have on everything else. If you want my advice, look for something else. I'm returning this item, my first ever return after many years of Amazon shopping.
